Jom Bowling!!

May 22, 2009aizul 2 Comments »

Dear Brothers,
I am please to announce to all about our next inter-house tournament. It’s gonna be bowling this time, not futsal to give a slight chance for other houses to claim a silverware to their empty cupboard… (jangan marah ek…)

Here are the details of the tournament:
Date: 20 June 2009 (Saturday)
Time: 10.30am – 12.30 noon
Venue: Bowling Alley Ceneleisure Damansara (near the Curve)
Disertai jamuan ringan… kordial oren, air wahi panas, biskut coklat amik dari store kriket…

Inter-House Format
Inter-house tournament with best points accumulation of 6 players from each house from a 3-frame game. So each house can send in as many players yg diorg rasa boleh kumpul, and we’ll get the best 6 players to accumulate as total score. (but if by tournament date, kita ada more than 6 players for each house, we’ll change accordingly). Kalau ada house yang tak cukup players (ish.. main bowling pun takleh nak cari cukup korum ke..?), kepada setiap players yang tak datang, kita akan kira the lowest score of top 6 from any of the other house, and counted as everage point to be included in that house total score. Nanti kita discuss la lagi detail on this technicality.

Please drop an email, and stated your interest to play or better still, volunteer to become team captain.

Here are the reps for each house, so far:

Idris: Farid Izanee / Eznan Fahim (siap ada dua kapten lagi, macam Idris menang lagi jgak ni)

Ahmad: Wyre

Mohd Shah: vacant… takkan nak hantar cukup2 players ajer macam futsal?

Leman: vacant gak lagi… macam dah ngaku kalah ajer…

Costing:

Per Head is RM25 (for 3 games n makan2)

Prize:

Piala Pusingan… (ada sesapa nak sponsor?)

Prizes for winner and runners up.

We are also considering to have a separate tournament for our beloved other half… (isteri, tunang, GF, bakal GF, jambu…?!)

- they’ll be playing for 2 games.

- prizes for best of 5.

- cost will be RM15 per person.

- so don’t forget to also register along your other-half.

I do hope to get a good respond from all. Another batch gathering after our succesfull Rumah Anak Yatim program few months ago. Keep the email coming… and pada yang nak menang, you can always organise your secret training.

Please spread the words around ya?

On behalf of MC9195 Sport Committee…

MINTA ROKOK

“Eh mintak sebatang rokok kau, aku nak try la” ujar saya kepada Shah*.

Raut wajah Shah terus berubah.

“Wait se-minit. Kau kan tak hisap rokok. Aku tak nak introduce kau kat benda-benda camni”, Shah mula gelisah.

Kemudian hampir setengah jam Shah, si perokok memberi syarahan kenapa saya tidak patut mula merokok, saya mendengar bersama Ashraf di cubicle saya di Dorm 6, East Wing.

Bowling

March 24, 2009aizul 1 Comment »

Sekali lagi aku copy paste from yahoogroups :p . Here goes…

Dear All,

I am throwing out the idea of having a small bowling outing amongst our brothers and also your other half. I am sorry that I will not be able to organise the inter-house yet, but can we see a show of hands on how many people will be able to make it for this bowling outing. This will also in conjunction with the short ‘balik kampung’ trip by our brothers, Lueko and Chling.

So if I may suggest that we organise this bowling outing as follows:
a. Venue: Ceneleisure Bowling, The Curve
b. Date: 28 March 2009 (Saturday)
c. Time: 1100am (we’ll start around 1130am)
d. Number of games: 2/3 games
e. Two categories: Kita2 and 2nd category amongst Spouse

There won’t be any interhouse and all, but this outing is to gauge the interest on this game amongst our batch member… test water dulu lah yek… so hopefully ramai boleh turn up for this event.

Additional Information:
Fees per Game: RM6.50 x 3 (RM19.50)
Stokin: RM2
Shoes: RM2

Thanks guys!

Sehari di Asrama Damai

March 21, 2009izhar 2 Comments »

KIRIMAN: IZHAR

tiba di Asrama Damai

RV POINT: CALTEX SUNGAI BULOH

Alhamdulillah Tun memulakan sesi breaking the ice dengan baik. Jangan risau..”

Tetapi bila FAB mula berceramah, alhamdulillah memang bagus sekali. Kata-katanya ringkas tetapi straight to the point.

I have to say that this is a first for me to see a few of my batch mates showing their ’soft and caring’ side. There’s ‘no airs’ about any person. Doesn’t matter if you’re the son of next Prime Minister in-waiting, atau ahli perniagaan yang berjaya with a few companies in tow; honestly that day I see you guys as equals and serving the needs of the orphans.

Sugar Water Becomes Green Gasoline?

March 21, 2009aizul No Comments »

NEW YORK–Virent Energy Systems later this year will open a demonstration plant that will convert sugar water into the chemical equivalent of gasoline.

The company is now in the process of raising a C round of funding to build the facility in Madison, Wis., which is scheduled to be open by the third quarter of this year, said Virent Energy CEO Lee Edwards.

(Credit: Virent Energy Systems.)

The pilot plant will be able to produce 10,000 gallons a year of liquid hydrocarbons–either gasoline, jet fuel, or diesel, he said. The feedstock can be sugar cane, sugar beets, or other plants.

Edwards spoke at the Jefferies Clean Technology Conference here this week where he made pains to point out that the biofuel company does not produce ethanol.

“Virent is one of few companies that convert biomass directly into hydrocarbons. The molecules we make are exactly the same as the ones that you use to drive vehicles today. It just so happens that ours are made from sugar water,” he said.

The company has raised $70 million to date–$30 million from venture capital and $40 million from government funds and large corporate partners. One investor is Cargill, which provides expertise on securing low-cost biomass feedstocks, and another is Honda, which is testing Virent Energy’s fuels in engines.

The technology’s roots come from the University of Wisconsin where researchers developed catalysts for converting sugars in plants into hydrogen. Engineers later altered the process to make hydrocarbons. The company, founded in 2002, is now producing a liter a day of fuel at its Madison facility, said Edwards, who was president and CEO of BP Solar before joining the company.

A significant element to the technology is that the chemical reactions in the process produce heat. That means the manufacturing fuel will not require putting in a lot of energy, which keeps the production costs down, Edwards said.

Virent Energy claims that its fuels will be carbon-neutral over the entire lifecycle of production and use. Edwards said that there is some variation on the total carbon emissions from its process based on feedstocks and land use variables. Its tests show that the gasoline it produces will be 102 octane and have lower levels of air pollutants, he added.

There is a lot of research and commercial work to make hydrocarbon biofuels, which have a higher energy density than ethanol. Synthetic biotech companies including Amyris and LS9 are genetically engineering microbes specifically for that purpose.

Virent Energy, by contrast, uses catalysts made of different metals including platinum, which is expensive but can be reused.

“Chemical engineers of the world love catalytic processes…because you can control the yield and scale,” Edwards said. “It allows us to make a refinery from different (and the least expensive) feedstocks.”

Another advantage of biohydrocarbons is that they can be fed directly into existing fuel pipelines. Water used in the process can be treated and reused, Edwards said.

Because building a full-scale 100 million-gallon-per-year plant costs about $200 million to build, Virent Energy plans to establish joint ventures to build its first refineries, he added.

He said in the long term he anticipates the company can compete without subsidies for domestically made biofuels. “At some point, biomass is a viable alternative with superior margins to crude oil.”
